Job Summary

Provides support and guidance to participants in specific YMCA programs including, but, not limited to ACT, LiveSTRONG, Diabetes Prevention, etc. Provides individual nutrition consultations with members or program participants. Implements standard curriculum while delivering assigned programs and ensures quality operation consistent with YMCA guidelines. Understands the Health Seeker target market and provides motivational coaching to members participating in ongoing Healthy Living programs.

Responsibilities

  1. Provided curriculum to participants in effective, meaningful and compelling ways.

  2. Encourage group participation and interaction through the use of open-ended questions and facilitate commitment and retention of participants.

  3. Create a motivating environment that is friendly and non-competitive.

  4. Foster relationships with and between participants.

  5. Prepare before each class (i.e. prep food, provide curriculum to class participants in effective, meaningful and compelling ways.)

  7. Create a motivating environment that is friendly and non-competitive.

  8. Foster relationships with and between participants.

Qualifications

  1. Current state approved first aid certification. (within 30 days of employment)

  2. Current state approved CPR certification.

  3. Minimum four-year degree in nutrition or health sciences field.

  4. Preferably a Registered Dietitian or in last year of master's degree in nutrition.

  5. Prior experience teaching group nutrition education.

  6. Knowledge of and experience with motivational interviewing.

  7. Ability to lead a class or provide individual service to children and families.

  8. High sense of urgency in responding to safety and emergency situations.

  9. Ability to motivate and educate members.

  10. Ability to set up, move and store equipment.

  11. Ability to speak another language other than English is desired.
